Bathysphere: f. artifact used to carry out underwater exploration at great depth. It was designed in 1931 by W. Beebe, it consists of a steel sphere suspended in the water by means of a cable and windows of quartz for the observation from the inside. A line allowed his crew communication with the ship that accompanied it. It has been replaced by the Bathyscaphe.
