Pyrophorus is a genus of the Group beetles from the family Elateridae known commonly as tuco-tucos, indigenous, smallest, cocuys, cucubanos, saltapericos, cucayos, TACA or taguinches. Another name is alua.1 they are bioluminescent ( they produce light ) although they are not related to fireflies.They are typical of the warm-lined areas of America, mainly abounding in the inter-tropical areas and subtropical ( in Argentina until approximately the parallel 30 ° S ).The name of the genus comes from the Greek fire, pyro, carrier and phorus.
