We have already said that enclitic pronouns (those that are attached after the verb forming a single word) are used with the infinitive, the imperative and the gerund. With the other verb forms we must use the proclitics, that is, those that precede the verb forming then two words. Therefore we must say: He defeated them, defeated them, subdued them, subjugated them, overcame them.
