The most important place of the novels is the town of Vigata, in the province of Montelusa, where the curator Montalbano works. Vigata does not exist, and in reality it is Porto Empédocle, the city where Andrea Camilleri was born in 1925. The province of Montelusa is actually the province of Agrigento, in southwestern Sicily. Many of the 30 novels have been filmed by the RAI, between 1999 and 2018.
