It was the name of a tribe of Germanic origin that inhabited the eastern region of Germany in present-day Worms (Rhineland-Palaqtinate). It was called that to its people and its territory. It also covered part of Switzerland, Italy and France. It was also the name of a law that established a division of goods and territories between them and the Romans in a federated manner.
