La Malinche is a historical character, with mixed opinions on his role in the conquest of Mexican territory. Born in the late 15th century into a noble Mexican family, she was sold as a slave by her very young stepfather, and spent many years among the Maya so she fluently spoke her language in addition to Nahuatl.
