durandal
  47

Also Durandarte or Durenda. Thus they called the sword of Count Roldán, nephew of Charlemagne, killed in the battle of Roncesvalles against the Basques. A legend of the Bierzo places this sword at the bottom of Lake Carucedo next to the mines of the Médulas. Perhaps it was taken there by the Leonese knight Bernardo de Carpio who participated in a second battle of Roncesvalles a few years after the first. There are also other versions.
