It is a genus of plants belonging to the family Arecaceae (palms). Name of one of the two continents allegedly submerged in the sea, which were part of the Gondwana supercontinent: Mauritia and New Zealand. Mauritia was where today is the Indian Ocean. , from Islands Mauritius to Madagascar.
