WHAT IS SURAZO? (41 Bolivia;In fall and winter they arrive from the South Pacific, masses of polar air which penetrate to the South American continent and channeled through the Andes, moving northward and reach Bolivia. This polar, heavy, and cold air known as surazo, lifts warm and light tropical air that exist in the country, generating a cold front that is characterized by a strong cloud cover. The most important effect of a surazo, is the drop in temperature from one day to another that can reach 10 º c in the daytime temperatures of Santa Cruz and Tarija and leads to the thermal effect of the surazos rain is strong in the Plains to Trinity, and also in the Valley of Tarija open to influences from the South. Heat is intense, short-lived during the day and at night, weaker because the cloud cover keeps the heat close to the ground. Rains in Santa Cruz, relative and 8mm in 50% of cases when a surazo. The rainfall effect decreases towards the North, about 3 mm in 25% of cases in Cobija. In Tarija and Sucre, the air is too dry in winter to produce rain. The action of the surazos is null in the Highlands, although you can see any relationship between Bolivian snowfalls and the surazos in plain. In summer, masses of humid air of Amazonian origin, affect all the country and the cold fronts linked to the surazos cause peaks of rain everywhere, except in the highlands where rainfall are constant you have or no surazo.
