In India it is the common name of sacred Basil. It is also called purple basil, balanoi, tulisa, tulasi or thulasi. Its scientific name is Ocimum tenuiflorum and belongs to the family Lamiaceae. It has medicinal, culinary and religious uses. It is a very aromatic plant.
