The trout is an important source of food because it grows wild and is resistant to water deficit, it is abundantly found in the arid and semi-arid areas of Colombia. ( Guajira Peninsula, Magdalena and Cesar ). It is used as fodder for human and animal feed and its fruit has plant proteins, fiber and sucrose. It develops naturally in Mexico, Central America to Panama and the West Indies, and in northern South America in Venezuela and Colombia.
