TEIXEDA Teixeda is the current name of Tejeda already old in the old Castilian. Its meaning corresponds to the common name of the tree of European origin of the genus of the taxaceae, whose only extant species is the common yew or black yew Taxus baccata and is also the lair where the badger lives and hides. Weak i's used to get lost, drifting into Texeda, and away from Portuguese, where it still is, for example, Pedro de Texeida. Also "Texeida" remains in Catalan, but becomes j in many words, e.g. , as "weaving", which has the same meaning. In general, the X of the old Spanish words underwent this transformation: QUIXOTE = QUIJOTEMÉXICO = MexicoDIXERON = DIJERONAXOLOTE = AJOLOTEXIMENA = JIMENA . In the last century lovers of tradition have returned to write Ximena and Mexico, which are proper names, but in common words there is no return. Remember that this "X" in Castile was pronounced "J" and not "KS" as we pronounce today the existing "X", or as they have been derived in Catalan.
