It's another way of calling lesbianism. Although for the forensic doctor Leon Thoinot it was specifically an "oral eroticism" among women, and was considered -at the beginning of the twentieth century- as a lesbian perversion. As is to be expected, it comes from the Greek 931; 945; 960; 966; 969; ( Sapphous "Sappho" ), by the poet Sappho of Lesbos, and the suffix -ism.
