1º_ To remember, evoke, bring to memory or mind something past, or that at that moment must be kept in mind. It comes from the Latin recordari, formed by the prefix re- ("again") and the noun cor, cordis ("heart, chest, seat of emotions and thoughts"). 2º_ It has a customary use such as "to wake up (someone)", which of course comes from "to remind someone to wake up". There is an uncommon Spanglish usage for 'remembering' such as 'recording or recording', which obviously comes from record ("record").
