Says of dicotyledonous flowering plants, shrubs or herbs, leaves are usually alternate, entire or deeply split and without stipules, flowers almost always in corymb of corolla with five petals of the base, and capsular fruit with three divisions and many tiny seeds of albumen fleshy; e.g., the polemonio.
