It is said of herbs or angiospermos shrubs dicotiledonous, climbing, originating in warm countries, mainly from South America, with leaves alternate, simple or compound, flowers are regular, almost always hermaphrodite and pentamerous, solitary or in clusters, and berry fruit, or capsular with many seeds; e.g. Passiflora.
