Meaning of hierogamia

hierogamia: In some mythologies it is the "marriage or sexual union between gods". It comes from the Greek 7985; 949; 961; 959; 962; 947; 945; 956; 959; 962; ( hierós gamos "sacred matrimony" ) , which, according to its etymology, is now also used with other interpretations.; It is the sacred union in which a couple considers themselves hierophants of a primordial spirituality and through sexual union seek to transcend mere pleasure for a more sublime and profound effect.
