It is one of the common names of a legume plant and its fruits in pods (giant beans). It is also called guandúl, guandús, stick beans, chicharo beans, gandule stick or quinchoncho. Its scientific name is Cajanus cajan of the fabaceae family.

Ghandur/is-is used in Puerto Rico to refer to the dhal defined above. The seeds are only hard if left to dry in the sheath in the tree or after ripe collected. If you collect mature ( grains fill with the sheath and is still green ) they are fácikes soften in water with salt to then make them in several well known recipes. Almost siemore dried seeds are used to replant.
