It is one of the common names of an animal of the genus Echinosorex and belonging to the family Erinaceidae (i.e. hedgehogs). It is also known as a lunar rat ( moonrat). There are 3 species: the Sumatra mole rat, the Malacca Peninsula and the Borneo Peninsula.
