Mexico is a country located at the southern end of South America. It has an East Coast washed by the Gulf of Mexico, and the Caribbean Sea, which are part of the Atlantic Ocean. From the West, it has a huge coastline bathed by the Pacific Ocean. It borders to the North with United States and South Central America, specifically with Guatemala and Belize. Mexico shares a long border with the United States of America and to the South with Guatemala and Belize. To the East it borders with the Gulf of Mexico and the West Pacific. Approximately 85% of the country ( with the exception of the Yucatán peninsula and the coastal plains of the East and Northwest ) consists of mountain ranges, plateaus and valleys. The sierra Madre Occidental and the sierra Madre Oriental runs parallel to both coasts. Among them is a vast region of valleys, plateaus and Tablelands ( average altitude 2000 m. ). At the southern end of the plateau are the highest peaks of Mexico: the pico de Orizaba, or Citlaltépetl, Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl. The Mexican territory comprises several islands located in the patrimonial sea, of which are Guadalupe Island and the Revillagigedo archipelago. The approximate area of the country is 1 964 375 km², located at tenth ranked fourth worldwide and fifth in America, after the United States, Canada, Brazil and the Republic of Argentina. Mexico has more than 3,200 km long between terrestrial points further afield. Wider Mexico border is which shares with the United States, of a length of 3326 km linear, most of which is defined by the rio Grande, which is also the longest in the country. The rest of this boundary is defined by a series of man-made and natural brands. The Guatemala border is formed by the Suchiate River, the Usumacinta and three artificial lines. The length of this border is 871 km. With Belize, 251 km border is marked by the channel of the Hondo.El River patrimonial sea of Mexico consists of two regions: the territorial sea, which is measured from the coastal line to 25 miles offshore; and the exclusive economic zone, which reaches 200 nautical miles from the coast. The Mexican heritage sea surface is about 2.7 million km².
