Euskara or Basque language is one of the oldest languages in Western Europe, predating Indo-European, as well as being "isolated", in the sense of having its own origin alien to neighbouring peoples. In Spain, since 1979 Basque has been, together with Spanish, the co-official language of the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country and since 1982, of a part of Navarre as well.
