Suborder of primates which are characterized by a progressive straightening of the trunk, the increase in the volume of the encephalic mass and the reduction of the facial skeleton. The fur is very dense and in some species have showy coloration. The hands and feet are prehensile, usually with the thumb opposable, as a result of adapting to arboreal life.
