It was a showdown that had as main characters, on the one hand, the Venezuelan troops and forces auxiliary Grenadines led by Rafael Urdaneta and Atanasio Girardot and the other to the Royalist Army, led by Domingo Monteverde, reinforced by members of the regiment of Granada, arrived from Spain under the command of Colonel Miguel Salomón.
