Compostela is the name of a city and municipality in the state of Nayarit (Mexico) and also of a city and municipality in the province of Compostela Valley (Philippines). The origin is in the Spanish Santiago de Compostela and its etymology seems to come from a Latin euphemism for cemeteries as composita tella ("organized lands"), although there is an allusion to the feminine participle of componere that was associated with a "calm place, or storage".
