Meaning of advisor

advisor
  9

It is an Americanism by adviser ("consultant, advisor"), which is used more when it is an official position. Surely it seems to have more prestige coming from the Latin advisor, formed by the prefix ad- ("relative to") viso, is, si , sum , sere ("to examine").

It is not Spanish but English, and I would like to justify this entry by saying that it is used in our language, but it is seen in contexts so snobbish and advertising that it does not even fit in this dictionary. See english/advisor ("advisor").
