acantopterigia (from gr. Akantha , spine, and pterygion , fin) adj. and n. m. Zool. It is applied to teleost fish characterized by having at least odd fins with spiny rays without articulation. The tuna, the sea snake, the swordfish or the sea bream are atoptopterigios. m. pl. Zool. Order formed by these fish, today without taxonomic value.
