Many originate from past participles: '' crisp, slide, elusive". Those of participles in "-gone" almost always change the "i" in "e": "shifting, skirt". Other derivatives of verbs, express propensity to primitive verb meaning: "deciduous, crisp". 2. at times, forms of place names: "shed, passage, stable".
