The seventh note of the scale ( if ) introduced it into the sixteenth century Anselmo of Flanders joining the initials of the words of the last verse of the stanza : Sancte Ioannes . In the XVII the Italian musicologist Giovanni Battista Doni replaced the UT note with DO, taken perhaps from the initial of Dominus (Lord) or perhaps From Doni.
