The tessellations were responsible for preparing the tiles by breaking pieces of marble and limestone of different colors to make the mosaics of the interior pavements in classical Rome. Sometimes they also did the work of the Musiuarii. The musivarios embedded the tiles on the floor or walls with lime mortar and marble dust.
