The most appropriate term is Rif. It was the name of one of the five territories in which Spain divided the Protectorate of Morocco. Rif is the name of a mountainous and green region of North Africa. It is a coastal region over the Mediterranean. The word is of Arabic origin and means border, margin, edge. Not to be confused with Rift.
