It is a verb used in Argentina and Uruguay with the sense of "to leave, escape, to take something or someone" and its figurines such as "steal with art, go crazy (lose your mind), die". The origin is in the Italian spiantare ("to deplant, tear something from its place") that lunfardo took as a spyingbird but that in a short time lost its prefixation and ended up as if it came from piantare ("to plant"), which would be just the opposite.
