In eastern Venezuela it is used to refer to a person who is like "mulatto" but of lighter complexion (usually white or very pale), with characteristically curly or afro hair. It has fallen into disuse in favor of the Caracas equivalent "bachaco". That name is also given to a rooster used in fights.
