From Greek onos, donkey and kheilos, lip, donkey lip. Boraginácea plant, similar to cow's tongue, alcalcuz or anchusa azurea. Onoquiles (alkanna tinctoria) has been used in dry cleaning, confectionery, cosmetics and in folk medicine for the red dye and healing qualities of its root.
