Name of a viral disease transmitted by the bite of infected Aedes mosquitoes. It causes fever and severe pain in the muscles and joints. The name means "walking bent by pain" and is makonde-tongued, from Tanzania (Africa), since during the 1952 African epidemic the alphavirus that produces it could be isolated.
