It is a rodent of the family Dasyproctidae, commonly known as neque, picure, jochi, sereque, internal, guatuse, guatin, guanaribo, serete, guaqueque, cuautuza, guamara. It is relatively small and its meat is highly appreciated. It is from Central America to Argentina, in Colombia is in almost all of its territory.
