Patronymic female on the island of Lesvos. The meaning for gay woman also appears on this island that was ( it is, but today is called Mytilini ) in the Aegean Sea. There lived in the 6th century a. (C). the poetess Sappho of Lesvos that only accepted disciples ( ) dedicated to those who lit love poems. That school gave origin to the name, although it is not known if Sappho was gay or just a romantic misandra.
