In Colombia it is one of the common names of some palm trees from which vegetable ivory is obtained, a material widely used in the elaboration of handicrafts. They are several species of the family Arecaceae (Phytelephas aequatorialis, Phytelephas macrocarpa, Phytelephas seemannii). In Bogotá in the street language it means foot, leg or shoe (taguazo is puntapie, kick).
